i checked qw and didn't see any description on using iebcopy to move pds members.. is there a way to do this? or do i just need to do the risky one.. copy it first then delete it from the previous location?

thanks!

Hello,

First - Lose the current signature. . . A few mainframes in a line is plenty. . . icon_smile.gif

Second - at the top of the page is a ink to "IBM Manuals". One of the is the IBM JCL Utilities Guide for DFSMS which includes IEBCOPY.

If this is a one-time shot is there some reason you did not use tso/ispf (3.3 i believe)?

No matter how you do the copy, and subsequent delete, it would be a good idea to back up the pds first. . .

thanks for the reply..

nope this is not a one time thing.. i do this every month.. and there are hundreds of members from different locations that needs to be deleted.. but in our case we just move the dataset for backup purposes. i have been doing it a couple of times and been using 3.3

has anyone done this sort of thing? if it would be not too much to ask, a sample code of this would be helpful. Thanks!

Hello.

Did you look in the manual mentioned above? Did you look at the IEBCOPY examples? I believe you can copy the members you want by following example 3. This also has sample jcl that you almost completely replace for the specifics for your system.

If you find something that is not clear, post what you found and your question. Someone will be able to clarify.
