I tried deleting the ML2 dataset using the command 'hsend delete dsn' and i got the error msg as 'NOT IN Catalog'. when i issued hsend list dsn i found only the MCDS information for the datasets.
I also tried to list in 3.4 option and found 'no dataset names found'.
I tried using the fixcds command to find the hsm name and delete, but it doesn't work. |

Well, with a comment like that, you deserve the reply of "Oh dear what a pity"
So let's start at the beginning.
1)How did you find that there are MCDS records for non cataloged datasets?
2) Does your in house catalog structure allow different catalogs with the same HLQ across the LPAR / HSM plex ?
- Yeah, I know, it's a real pain in the arts - but some sites still have this situation.
3) Please explain in detail using the FIXCDS command to find the HSM name and WHY it failed. i.e. the error messages and codes issued. |

I'm including the stepwise procedure i followed,
Step 1 : I checked whether the ds is in 3.4 option, the result was 'no ds name found'
Step 2 : Then i checked with hsend list dsn option, and found only the MCDS information
Step 3 : Now when i tried hdelete for the ds it gave an error msg as Not in catalog.
Step 4 : I tried 'hsend fixcds d dsn' command and got the original dfhsm name and with that name i tried deleting, but even i got not in catalog msg.
These were the process i followed... |

Can you post the output from the FIXCDS command.
I can not see a reason why the FIXCDS command wouls access the catalog.
From what I can make out from your information is that you have some orphaned MCDS D records that you want to delete.
FIXCDS D dataset-name DELETE
should solve the problem |

ARC1056I DSN NOT IN CATALOG This is the error msg i got while issuing the hdelete command... i could get only the dfhsm name while issuing the fixcds command, i think there is no option to use hdelete to the dfhsm name... |

Is it the case that you have orphaned MCDS D records which are in the MCDS but have no relationship to a cataloged dataset.
If so, are these records that are awaiting purge - as defined in the HSM parmlib member.
Are these records that may be cataloged on another LPAR / System that has an ancient catalog structure of the same HLQ defined to multiple catalogs across different systems.
If you are sure that these records can be deleted use .........
FIXCDS D dataset-name DELETE
and the orphaned records will be deleted. |

Sorry for the Late Response,
I tried with the following option to check what else can be done to delete ML2 datasets.
here are the steps,
I had checked listcat level for the HLQ's in all catalogs and there were no entries present.
The MCDS information was present for all datasets listed below and when the MIGVOL is tried in rmm,
i could see a different dataset holding that volser.
When i try deleting using HSEND DELETE DSN , i got the below error message. Please refer to the error msg and advise. Thanks.
ARC1001I DSN DELETE FAILED, RC=0003, REAS=0004
ARC1103I MIGRATION/BACKUP/DUMP VOLUME NOT AVAILABLE |
