Consider this scenario:
A HSM ML2 tape(A) has an alternate(which was created during duplexing), now another tape which is getting recycled CAN it use this tape A as the output tape. I am asking this because I have had a belief that when a tape has an alternate you cannot use it as output for recycle. But I faced a sev 3 some days back where I believe the tape A was being used as o/p and since then i have been confused []. |

No reason for the tape not to be used as output for a recycle. |

Depends on your HSM setup - do you use duplex processing where the alternate is updated in parallel to the primaray or do you use the manual copy process to copy volumes ?
If you use parallel duplex - no problems, it is an automatic process. As the primary gets updated so does the alternate.
Having never used the manual copy process, I can not tell you what happens in this case, but the manual can. |
