Hi,

I would like to know how to effectively use search option.

I tried searching with ‘sumfields’ keyword and search returned some 6 posts. However when I searched with ‘sumfield’ (without the‘s’) it returned only one post. Should it not return all posts which have ‘sumfield’ and any characters following ‘sumfield’? Similarly in the past I searched for sort process of PLI by entering ‘PLISRT’. But it didn’t return post which had 'PLISRT' text in the message part of the post. I identified this thru someother search keyword.

Please advice.

P.S. I selected the option 'Search topic title and message text'.

Hello,

Is "sumfields" in your search looking for the sort feature? It yes, using 2 separate keywords sum and fields, there are 476 hits. The actual sort control statement is SUM FIELDS=. . . Presented as one word, there would be very vew hits as this is not valid sort control.

When i searched for plisrt, 2 topics were returned (both yours icon_smile.gif ). Is there some other topic you expected to "hit"?

Hi Dick,

Yes I was looking for 'sumfields' of sort feature. But when I entered 'sumfield' why isn't it return posts with characters 'sumfields'(with a 's').

As for 'plisrt', i searched for it before posting my plisrt question in this forum but just mentioned above to press on the problem I'm facing.

I'm not certain but I don't believe the search facility here does "fuzzy" matches.

Hello,

Using either sumfield or sumfields will not return the info/hits you are looking for. As i mentioned both are misspellings of what you are looking for. The proper key words to search for this feature are SORT and FIELDS as separate words, not combined into one word.

If i've not yet explained clearly, let me know and we'll work until we get it icon_wink.gif

Oops.. sorry I did notice just now that SUM and FIELDS are 2 seperate words!!!
Thanks for the explanation dick.
But still one question remains, as Terry mentioned does this do "fuzzy" matches? Since I tried PLISRT as keyword for search but it didn't return a post which has 'PLISRTx' in the message text. The link for this is below -

Not that i'm aware of. Somethng that has worked for me is a form of using a wild-card. When i search for plisrt*, i get more hits.

Might this do what you need?

Oh, that's great. Yes it did what I need. The wild-card form of search is what I was looking for. Thanks.
