Couldn't edit the file as may be it is protected

Hi,

I face a problem like i couldn't edit the file as may be it is protected.

Let me expain in detail:

I am using a file A and it contains some input date in which their is a column called number which i have to increase to 3 byte former was 2bytes.

i had changed all the trails like increasing the length and .......

when i see the data in Hex form it shows they are in protected form.

please advise.

In which environment you are currently working?
What do you mean with 'Protected' and 'Protected form'?
If a OS/390 if you try to browse a file and you have not the correct authority you will not able to see it and a RACF message in red color will appaire...

Try to explain your problem better.
