Hi,

I execute a program which reads the compressed assembler file and formats it and writes the output file

in the jcl for creating the output file i gave
Code:
DISP=(NEW,CATLG,DELETE),
UNIT=DISK,
SPACE=(27998,(6000,600),RLSE),VOL=(,,,10),
DCB=(  PROD.DSCB,RECFM=FB,LRECL=645,BLKSIZE=0)

This failes for

Code:
IGD17272I VOLUME SELECTION HAS FAILED FOR INSUFFICIENT SPACE FOR  203
DATA SET MIS.PCP.MIS041PL.G0074V00
JOBNAME (MISM041 ) STEPNAME (MIS041PL)
PROGNAME (MIS041PL) DDNAME (EXTRACT )
REQUESTED SPACE QUANTITY = 164051 KB
STORCLAS (SCMIPS) MGMTCLAS (MCMIPS) DATACLAS (DCMIPS)
STORGRPS (SGMIP  )

Also tried the following options:
space = (27998,(6000,600),RLSE),VOL=(,,,20)
space = (27998,(6000,600),RLSE)
space = (27998,(10000,1000),RLSE)
space = (27998,(12000,1200),RLSE)

Please let me know what can be the possible solution for this.

Edited: Please use BBcode when You post some code, that's rather readable, Thanks...Anuj

Hi,

Usually, this message (IGD17272I) is accompanied by other messages that give more information about why the allocation might have failed. Review those other messages. If possible, please post the complete diagnostic information from the SYSOUT of failed JOB.

It means exactly what it says in the messgae. The selection process to find a candidate volume for your space allocation has failed because of insufficient space. i.e. there is no volume in the storage group that could satisfy the request, so increasing the requested allocation isn't the way to go.

Given that the allocation isn't too large I would have a serious word with the wannabe storage people that have let the storage group get into such a mess.

So what will be the possible solution for this, When run this same job in the test environment with different qualifiers for the datasets goes fine but in prod regions its going down all these are the GDG files, will there be any restrictions for the particular datasets, since in the prod it will be different qualifier and in test different qualifier for the datasets

Try reducing the allocation and increasing the volumes

e.g.

SPACE=(27998,(3000,600),RLSE),VOL=(,,,40),

and talked with the storage management pople to allocate extra spcaes for the datasets, and it went through fine.
