We have a utility called DFSMSrmm used for TAPE datasets. Please let us know how a tape dataset can be browsed/viewed directly using any specific DFSMSrmm option or command.
Normally we IEBGENER tape datasets to DASD and then view them but these are extremely large tapes that would not be allowed to be copied to DASD in the TEST environment. |

Can't be done unless you have the authority to read a tape directly from your TSO session. |

using tape datasets in a tso interactive session, is not a data management issue,
rather an operational issue ( MOUNT activity ),
number of tape units, physical handling of tapes,
users waiting in front of a locked terminal waiting for the tape being physically mounted |

Use the sort product you have installed to extract just a small subset of the file to copy to DASD. |

DFSMSrmm volume retention and movement are specified interactively with ISPF panels but this allows only authorized application owners to alter existing values without contacting the tape librarian. Are you the one ?

Use multiple volumes of DASD (VOL=(,,,5)) or go by the suggestion from Craig (Giegerich). |
