All,

I've 3 steps in a JCL as given below
JOB01
STEP01
STEP02
STEP03

The steps are dependent on the successful completion of the previous step.

Now, I need a logic to write the job cards such that steps 1 & 3 are run in REGION01 and step 2 is run in REGION02.

The job is submitted in REGION01.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, Twissi

Find out the JES nodes of the different regions, make sure that there is an NJE link between the regions and then use the /*ROUTE XEQ card

Good spot Enrico, I missed that - thought it was 3 jobbies.

Well, it will have to be really - as you can not run differing steps of the same job on different LPARs. Physically impossible. A bit like putting your chip butty in one box and then trying to get it out of another one.

Expat, Enrico,

The regions I mentioned are two different systems with shared DASDs (I don't know how to explain this better, sorry). One region has the database for my application (say, REGION01) and the other has ENDEVOR for Cobol code (REGION02).

What I really need is a single job (with or without multiple job steps in it) that when submitted from REGION01 compiles a number of Cobol programs in REGION02 and on the completion of this step, validates the PLAN by running BIND cards on REGION01.

As I said earlier that we have shared DASDs between these regions, we don't need to XMIT the DBRM or LOAD modules.

I don't mind having 3 jobs or 3 steps but all I need is a single job SUBmission.

Please could you advise?

Thanks, Twissi

You should do something like this:

1. Use three different jobs.

2. Each job has two steps: 1st step is the work you want to do. 2nd step is to submit another job that does the next part of your process.

3. Each job submitted has routing information so that it runs in proper system.

Pedro,

Could you elaborate on point 3, i.e. on the routing information?
Could you give some syntax, etc. please?

Look in the JCL manuals (link at the top of the page) for the JES statements appropriate to your shop -- JES2 and JES3 use very different statements to control actions like routing.
