what You want is not what VSAM wants...
and I guess that VSAM is more assertive in its desires than You icon_cool.gif

a KSDS has by architecture three catalog entries..
and two vtoc entries
cluster component - catalog only
( the one You use on the dd statement )
Index component - catalog and vtoc
data component - catalog and vtoc

You might call them in any way You want but they will be always there

As Mick Jagger told us many, many years ago, "You Can't Always Get What You Want".

What are you trying to accomplish? If you explain what you need/want to actually do (not how you want to accomplish it), someone may have a suggestion.

Hello,

Depends. . .

Possibly the most-recognized "riff/fill" in all of pop/rock music. . .

"Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name. . .".

Wild horses couldn't keep me away ...............

But as for the OP - does he just mean that he doesn't want .DATA nd .INDEX as the component suffixes ?

Of course, that means the dataset is IAM, not VSAM.
