I just used "listcat entries('dataset name')all" , and by the return code check if the dataset is existing. And there is an item called 'fseqn' which I don't konw the meaning.
I get the value 0 for it, and found that it may have 1 instead, as for others I don't know.
I have tried to get it from google and redbook but failed, so please anyone could help me get it out?[/img] |

B.2.5 NVS: Non-VSAM Entry, Special Field
The special field for a non-VSAM data set describes a non-VSAM data set stored on magnetic tape.
FSEQN--The sequence number (for the tape volume indicated under the "VOLUMES group" keyword VOLSER) of the file in which the non-VSAM data set is stored.

Thanks a lot, both expat and enrico-sorichetti!
Does it mean that the dataset is storaged on DASD when the FSEQN=0,
and the dataset is storaged on tape when the FSEQN>0
Is this logic right? |

You might assume the FSEQN field determines TAPE vs. DASD, but the true indicator would be the DEVTYPE value.
X'xxxx20xx' is DASD and
X'xxxx80xx' is TAPE. |
