Hi All ,
I have a requirement to Zip a mainframe file before FTP ing the file to a open system server. For that I am using the utility PKZIP , I get a sample PKZIP utility in internet. I understand most of it's parameter , but could not able to understand the parameter called NIA.
Please help me if you anything about this parameter , Is it required always? |

-NIA (Name In Archive) specifies how you want to convert your MVS dataset name into a more meaningful local filename on the machine that will ultimately receive your zip archive file. |

So is this the name of the destination file ? Because during FTP we can give name to the destination file. Then what is the use of the parameter NIA ? Is it a mandatory parameter for PKZIP ? |

I think you're a bit confused. Name In Archive refers to the name of the file within the ZIP file -- NOT the name of the ZIP file. If your FTP says to put 'XXXX.XXX.XXXX.ZIP' and xxxx.xxx.xxxx are all valid MVS qualifiers, and you did not issue an FTP cd command to a Unix directory, MVS file XXXX.XXX.XXXX.ZIP will be created or replaced. Once the file is on the mainframe, and you unzip it, then the name in the archive will be referenced -- but in the FTP it plays no role. NIA provides the translation from an MVS file name of level1.level2.level3... into directories /level1/level2/level3... |
