Alias use under a CICS region.

We would like to use an Alias for a software package that gets updates monthly or quartely under CICS. If we need to bring down the package for an emergency fix or change can we delete the Alias if it is allocated to CICS ? We get version updates and do not want to change the version number in the JCL.
