We FTP files from our mainframe to a server (Report2Web).
We get this error above about 5 per day out of 100 FTPs to the server.
99.99 percent of the time the file gets across correctly but a few fail to actually fully get all the data to the server.
Any idea why? We have already changed FTPKEEPALIVE to 120 but still no go.
Server log shows:
14:46:24 10.1.100.66 [13470]created /reports/Datatrst.mfd 426 1236
Is there a server version of 'FTPKEEPALIVE' that needs to be set? We use Windows 2000 server.
Thanks for any help! |

If the FTP goes from the mainframe to the Windows 2000 server, your problem is going to require looking at Microsoft forums, not mainframe forums. z/OS is acting as an FTP client in such a case and even setting FTPKEEPALIVE on the mainframe side isn't going to do you one bit of good since the connection is controlled by the server. |

Hello Paul and welcome to the forums,
If your mainframe runs an ftp service, you might look into having the Win-based system "pull" the data from the mainframe rather than having the mainframe "push" the data to the server.
It sounds like the weak link in the download is the Windows server. If the server pulled the data, it would most likely find the mainframe "up" more consistently. |

Well we conquored the problem.
It was the power. Yes the servers power apparently would have spikes randomly and that would kick the 27 error out.
They re-did the power cables (I don't know how) and well it's been a full month of zero errors!
Thanks! |

The 426 makes sense -- the connection closed abnormally when the power spiked! Rare but not unheard of -- at a previous company we moved into a renovated building and fried two desktops without tripping the surge protectors they were plugged into. Turns out an electrician had accidentally wired the ground for this one circuit into the power grid so the plug was running about 180 volts instead of 115-120. |
