Is there any way to recover previous generations of a GDG dataset?
While browsing a dataset, I'm not able to see few earlier generations of a dataset.
How to recover them?
Thanks. |

ask Your storage support group,
- if backups are available
- about the recovery strategy for GDGs
a recovery without appropriate dsname assignment
might foul up the generation sequence |

Also, if you need to get to generations that have rolled off, you may want to discuss with your storage support group changing the number of generations that are kept -- perhaps it is set too low? |

Just to let u know that the dataset has a limit of 10 generations.
I also tried with checking the backup through the following command
Code: |
HLIST LEV('<dataset Name>') BCDS. |
And found the backup is there from the following message
DSN=MARK07.EXTRACT.SCS218.DAILY.G2179V00 BACK FREQ = *** MAX VERS=***
BDSN=DFHSM.BACK.T505019.MARK07.EXTRACT.J8262 BACKVOL=Z18357 FRVOL=MIZ491
BACKDATE=08/09/18 BACKTIME=19:50:30 CAT=YES GEN=000 VER=001 UNS/RET= NO
RACF IND=NO BACK PROF=NO
But when I tried to recover it through HRECOVER command,its failing with following message:
ARC1001I MARK07.EXTRACT.SCS218.DAILY.G2178V00 RECOVER FAILED, RC=0039,
ARC1001I (CONT.) REAS=0015
ARC1139I ERROR PROCESSING RACF PROTECTED DATA SET, RECOVERY/RECALL/DELETE
ARC1139I (CONT.) TERMINATED
RECOVER REQUEST 00189464 SENT TO DFSMSHSM
The dataset I am trying to recover is a production dataset and therefore its showing Protected in the error message.
Is there any other reason,want to know?
Thanks |

I do not understand what this is asking.
To recover the file, your storage management people should be able to help. |
