If a batch job abend in ftp step then how will I check that it is due to server down or due to something else. |

Look at the output of the FTP job and the FTP reply and error codes. They tell you what caused the problem. |

A few things you might try:
Run a TRACERTE from your system to the server to make sure all of the network paths are able to connect.
Run a PING to that server and make sure you're seeing a response.
Start FTP to see if the FTP Server is responding.
Beyond these few tasks, I'd either involve a network engineer and have them setup a sniffer trace, or if it looked as if the problem was with the remote server, I'd turn it over to its support team for a resolution. |
