Is it is possible to read the file in subprogram which is decalared and reading in main program, I mean i have a file contain 5 records, now i want display the 3 records from the main program and 2 records from the subprogram...is it is possible?....if possible what are the declarations need to take care.

It would have been very difficult to mention which cobol you are using? Did you look in the documentation for you version of cobol for external? If not, why not?
If you did, what did you find?
