S222 Abend I/O ERR 240F.

hi, while restoring a few files from a gdg, we are getting this error in the JCL. JCL abends with S222.

Code:

JOB86831  IEC512I I/O ERR 240F
JOB86831  IEF234E D 240F,,PVT,LEBUVGS1,STEP010


Explanation: An error has been detected processing the volume on the
device.

can you please help how to approach fixing this.

S222 is a job cancelled abend, someone has cancelled the job.

From the information you have posted we can tell you nothing more.

hi expat,

Recently there was a space problem in the LPAR, and operations had added two new disks. But after the disks were added, our restore job abends this way.

Now we don't know whether this is because of the new added disks or because of the the gdg we are taking.

Can you please guide where else can i look for some info which can help.

Start by posting the output that shows what's happening. The first segment of the JES output.

Are the volumes SMS managed or not.
Have they been propery initialised.
VVDS defined. VTOCIX defined.

There can so many reasons - unfortunately.

Unit 240E had an equipment check. This may be a transient problem or it may require hardware maintenance. Fix the problem or use a different drive and the problem should be gone.

This appears to be an OPSMVS rule that automatically cancels the job when message IEC512I appears in the log.

Looks to me as if the problem is with the input tape dataset.
