I want to get the date in Character format.

For example,

Todays date is 20080812.
I want the same date in August 12, 2008 format.

Is there any command in cobol to get the date in the above format.

Review the Language Environment Callable Service routines "CEEDAYS" (converts date to lilian days) and "CEEDATE" (converts lilian days to a date format, based upon specified picture clauses).

You'll find a large assortment of picture clauses, including the format with which you're asking.

Examples can be found in your applicable Language Environment Programming Reference.

Regards,

Bill
