No. I am just thinking every time you add a new database, a new MFS, a new transaction, do you need to compile a link into IMS for it to know where that object is? Otherwise how would IMS know where to find it's objects?

Yes there is a sequence of events. The first is your DBD definition, DBD gen. You cannot have an IMS system without these events. If you look up DBD gen, ACB gen, PSB gen, MFS, etc then you will not forget what they do and the sequence in which they must be done. IMS knows where these guys are because the systems programmers set up the procedures and the libraries. They also set up the regions and classes for each type of transaction.
