well, faced with a wall of utter incompetence and stupidity,
it looks like you are going to have to resort
to varchar and char columns to store the dbcs data,
the same way fools store decimal and binary numerics.
I would suggest you talk to a dba about this.
any dba will recognize the need for inclusion
of proper datatype columns.
If this does not work, refer to my first suggestion. |

Sailaja,
Does the requestor/user realize that you are not "allowed" to change the table structure? Who has placed this constraint on you? In other words, have you brought this to anyones attention? DBAs? User(s)? Supervisor? Have you put together any kind of written analysis to present your case and show what it's going to take to meet the requested requirement(s)? It seems to me that there is a major communication gap with this request. You need to ask questions of those involved.

Rick,
This has been brought to attention of DBA's but they are saying that this could be possible. |

Many things are possible that should still not be done. . .
If the system truly has a dbcs requirement, the database should be changed rather than some cludge work-around be used. |

if your company intends on keeping this customer, you are forced, technically, to move beyond 1900's technology and start dealing with dbcs - unicode.
your terminal serving cics region could route any customer to the region that has a database setup with unicode.
if management has decided that the money is not going to be spent to buy a copy of a less than 20 year old copy of db2, then you are in for the technical nightmare / thrilling-ride of your life. |
