You can run C and c++ programs in mainframes provided the compiler is installed on that. to find out it is there or not i think you can search the member IFAPRDxx (--> xx= MAY BE 00 OR XX itself or any other two characters.) in cpac.parmlib, sys1.parmlib. In that find c++. The status should be enabled there.
if it is there, it means that it is there in your mainframe may be may not be installed. in proclib you will find the proc for running that. hust search for that.
Thanks, |

Hi Priya,
COBOL is meant for business purpose.Things which COBOL can do cant be done thru C/C++.We can run C/C++ in mainframes however business applications/components like receivables, inventory,Customer information system etc.. gets well executed through COBOL. |

Can you give an example? So far, I have found that I can do everything with C what can be done with COBOL. Just as a matter of interest, so I would know in the future, if such a need arises.
Tnx! |

Hi , I have done development in C on mainframe. The need for C arised only because of arcitectural constraints. Use of C proved usefull because of vary complex data structures involved in the processing. But we strongly felt abscence of COBOL whenever the need for sequential file processing poped up. |
