Hello,

What would you like to do that TALLY does not do?

You could also count records using DFSORT in batch.

Hello,

I guess no such command in FILE-AID, you can browse the data set do scroll up and scroll down, in left hand side you can find the total number of records once you reach the end of the data set.

No, because your question is most unclear. . .

It is doubtful that anyone yet understands your question and i'm not sure you have the answer you requested.

You mention file-aid 3.8. On this system file-aid 3.8 is:
Code:
8  VIEW        - View interpreted record layout

If you better explain what you want to know you may get more answers.
