any particular printer?
for line printers, using overprint (think it is an hyphen '-' but can't remember) will effect the bold, but that is a printer that responds to FBA type characters.
if you are driving a laser printer, I have no idea. |

The overstrike is a '+' for ANSI Carriage Control. It should work by default for most cases. |

I think, the answer for this would differ from experience to experience. We use AFP, which has it's own character set for such editing. |

On the old "line" printers, you could print without advancing and then print a second time to overstrike the characters.
On "page" printers with APF, you need a special PAGEDEF that directs the printer to use a special BOLD font for certain lines. |

If there are multiple bold headings in some report, is it a good idea to use this option? |

If the printer hardware allows it, use it as much as you wish. There are probably very few "impact" printers around. Most are "laser" type. |

Hi,
It was out of curiosity, never used this- and "mainframe-printer" was not working well so couldn't experiment with. Thanks, I'll keep this point with me... |
