Job market situation is very good for mainframe now, The Year 2005 would be easily the highest recruitment made by IT companies in past one decade.
Mainframe is no exception to it, Business coming to Offshore company in 2005-06 is Awesome!!

AI is Artificial intelligence and at advance level also called Robotics.

It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable.

Applications area of AI are followings: game playing, speech recognition, computer vision, expert system, computer vision, heuristic classification, language processing, Fuzzy logic etc, etc

I don't understand how work on AI will finish off mainframes , AI research has both theoretical and experimental sides. Till Now most of them are theoretical Only. The experimental side has both basic and applied aspects of our daily dependency on computer activities, purpose is to automate all manual intervention.

Whereas Mainframe came in to being to handle large processing of records i.e large-scale computing purposes, a mainframe(Legacy System) is associated with centralized large-scale computing purposes rather than distributed computing such as client server environment.

Mainframe will not die, Mainframe will live long!!, much longer than todays' Client Server technology of Microsoft and Sun microsystem such as Java .

hi priya,

I guess why you quoted as the evolution of AI will downturn the mainframes industry, Because artificial intelligence is still a controversial thing as some would say.

Then why people may shift to certain technology which is quite controvertial when compared to the ever green giant MF.

I want to know your views.
