yes, I mean the same when you open the file and give PROFILE command on command line it shows you number of options like number on, caps on, pack on etc......
I want to know usage of these options.
Thanks in advance. |

Profile option is not associated only with "sequential files".
The profile command is used either to specify to the system certain user characteristics which are to be used to control the flow of information to and from the terminal or to list the user profile.
Per your previous post,

PROFile command is used to list the user profile. The user profile is retained throughout each terminal session unless the user wishes to change it by issuing the PROFile command again and specifying the appropriate operands. Changes made while processing in the background will not be saved and your foreground profile will not be affected.
The explanation of "those" options are pretty straight forward, do You have some specific queris on some of those options, if yes, let us know which option/s; hoepfully one would be having the answer/s.

I have doubt regarding Pack on option. For my program I created one sequential file. It had Pack on. After running my program i got unexpected result (Data was not proper in the file). And when I made Pack Off for that file I got the expected result. So i want to know about this. Exactly what is the impact of this option on file.
Thanks. |

ISPF decides what profile to apply to the current object being edited/viewed on the last qualifier
( irrelevant of the dataset organization )
Pack on stores tha data in packed format... ( compressed - ISPF format )
the issue is tricky because when browsing/viewing/editing You will not notice any difference,
ISPF will take care of doing the unpack and the pack in a transparent way
for safe batch processing in any condition check...
