Hi,

I have a Load card that loads around, 900 million records into a table. But the Job takes 6750 CPU seconds and costs 850$. This table has 105 partitions. Every time the data would be loaded into one of the 105 partitions. Could you suggest a way I could optimise this load card to reduce the CPU time & cost.

I thought of including the partition no in the load card, but am not sure how to do it and whether it would help.

Following is the Load Card:

LOAD
REPLACE
PRELOAD LOAD
ORDER PRESORTED
SORTNUM 64
LOG NO
INDDN SYSREC
DISCARDS 0
BMCSTATS NO UPDATEDB2STATS NO
COPY NO
COPYPEND NO
INTO TABLE FCDWTBT.TBFCDHBF
(A POSITION (01) DATE EXTERNAL(10)
,B POSITION (11) CHAR (01)
,C POSITION (12) CHAR (06)
,D POSITION (23) CHAR (05)
,E POSITION (28) CHAR (09)
,F POSITION (37) CHAR (01)
,G POSITION (38) CHAR (01)
,H POSITION (39) CHAR (02)
,I POSITION (41) CHAR (01)
,J POSITION (42) CHAR (03)
,K POSITION (45) CHAR (03)
,L POSITION (48) CHAR (04)
,M POSITION (52) DECIMAL
,N POSITION (60) DECIMAL
,O POSITION (68) DECIMAL
,P POSITION (76) DECIMAL
,Q POSITION (79) DECIMAL
,R POSITION (82) DECIMAL
,PARTITION_NO POSITION (85) SMALLINT
,T POSITION (18) CHAR (05))

There is a slight change in the question, every time the data would be loaded into each of the 105 partitions and not just into one partition.

That timing sounds reasonable for the volume you are loading a little under 2 hours of CPU time to load almost 1 billion records isn't bad.

The elapsed time for this job is around 3 hours. Do you think that there is a scope for improvement in processing time & costs if I split the data into files based on partition id, and i load data into each partition separately with these files, by mentioning the partition id in the loadcard.

Not really. You have a wall time of 3 hours but cpu time of 1.875 hours. We are still talking 1 billion records. It's gonna take some time and some horsepower to do that.
