I want to know the ca7 command which gives the job name which is holding a specified file.

Like we have LDSN,DSN=<datasetname>,LIST=ALL command which provides all the jobs which uses the dataset..

But for Eg: if a set of jobs are using the same file and one job gets abended due to file contention then how can i check that which job is using the file at that time.

Hi,

This is not the way scedulers-software are meant to work. If a JOB is using some DSN other would go on 'hold'. And it's not a good use of 'shedulers', you must have dependencies...

BTW, even if You could know such a commnad you are searching for, how would that be used to avoid abend?

Hi,

I do not know about CA7, but you can check which job is holding a dataset by typing a 'WHOHAS' command besides the desired dataset.

Hello,

WHOHAS is site-specific. Many/most mainframes do not have this.

Hi,

As suggested, many shops doesn't have WHOHAS. Even I've this in my shop but it's never been used in Production, seldom we use it for testing purpose. By the way, if some JOB is abended/went on 'hold' due to some data set then data set can be visible in JESMSGLG of that JOB.

I'm not a CA-7 programmer, but we use it (CA-11), so I know the problem in question is not usual with CA-7. I still suggest if two JOBs are using the same DSN at a given moment make use of predecessor/successor terminologies of CA-7. Talk to You your scheduling people once on this.

Thanks all.

I have WHOHAS cmd in mainframes.

Anuj,

"how would that be used to avoid abend?"
Anyways it will not give the permanant resolution to the abend.

Abend job is a time triggered job. When the processing of a file is completed by the first job, i restart the abended job from the abend step.
To know when i have to restart the job, I have to looked into all the jobs that uses that dataset. So I just want to monitor that single job which is holding the dataset so that I can restart the job when the holding job release it.

I think I have to set dependencies between the jobs..

But that should not be used in production. They were, perhaps, created to help in testing/debugging & not be used in production. I don't see it's use in production in my shop.

When You want to "Quote" someone's sentences from some previous post, use 'Quote' tags after selecting the text to be quoted, as I did above. 'Quote' tag is just below the 'subject' line when you post a reply.

yes it cann't, that's why I suspected your way of investigation for the problem..

Instead of time trigger you can use predecessor/successor dependencies, as posted earlier.

sigh, do you do it in production..?

Yup, per your statements so far about the problem, it seems this can be a solution. Good Luck.. icon_smile.gif

You can use ISRDDN (TSO Command) also to see which job is currently holding dataset.

If your jobs are not dependent on each other and only using the same file you can put a negative dependency between the jobs which would make sure that the two jobs do not run at the same time.
