hi
What is the reclaim request that happens in mainframe process for the GDG's ?
Scenario :We developers had access in creating a production file -GDG version file (the file that is created when production jobs run ) and lacked authority to write data in it . We are not supposed have the creation authority for the production but we had by mistake. So we checked to see the production file created by us will create any problem however, the JCL and process that ran in prodution said that we have done a "reclaim request on the file " and now it had proper data in it .
Kindly expain what is reclaim request. |

Thanks
This is the information i got for reclaim request
For NEW or MOD GDSs, if SMS finds the same
generation number (G0000V00) already cataloged,
but not rolled-in to the GDG index, it does
=====> RECLAIM processing. Reclaim processing means
that an existing data set in deferred roll-in
=====> status will be REUSED. For both DISP=NEW and
=====> DISP=MOD datasets, the new data would WRITE OVER
the existing data and the existing data would
=====> thus be LOST |
