HI everyone,
My company have recently converted most of the applications from VSAM to DB2 UDB 8 .
There are suggestions to go for Rational Developer for System z/OS as advanced application development tools .
I don't have any information about this tool is usefull or not?
Kindly provide me information (whatever u can) abt this software?
Thanks in advance

Hello Javeed,
I believe you are looking for "Rational Rose" developer tools.
If you do a web search for "rational rose" and "developer" you should find things that provide info you can use. |

Hi Dick
Fomerly it was known as WEBSPHERE .(As i have searched on WEB i found on "ITtoolbox Blogs" that Although described as new product, in many it is a repackaging of existing IBM technologies(ie websphere).
I have gone thru IBM websites & obviously u will find all +ve points abt this technology there ! I want to know both +ve & -ve aspects for our mainframe environment which is recently converted from VSAM to DB2 UDB 8.
Thanks
Javeed

Javeed,
You are correct, Rational Application Developer is an advanced version of Websphere of IBM product and this is a web based tool.
RAD has some advantages over Websphere (I also don't have remember exactly) but takes more RAM. So, you need to have 1GB RAM to run this application where as Websphere can run on 512 RAM very conveniently.

KSK, you are incorrect. RAD is not a version of Websphere. IBM doesn't even claim that. RAD is a software development IDE that can run an instance of Websphere within it. Previously RAD was known as Websphere Studio Application Developer.
Dick, Rational Rose is a legacy product.
See this listing at IBM for the product the O/P is asking about:

Yup, and one that there are still many very hi$ contracts using.
Going back before R-Rose, there was actually hardware named Rational (it was a machine built to support Ada).
Just too many "things" with the same/similar name.
Might be nice to only have a couple years of experience and not have the "clutter" - nah. . .

Hi Steve,
You are correct. Sorry for not reading properly. Yes, RAD is the advanced version WSAD.
Thanks for the correction.
