If you have "CA-Easytrieve Plus Application Guide", you might want to take a look at chapter 9, "File Processing". It says that CA-Easytrieve Plus automatically OPENs and CLOSEs all files.

hi ofer71
i have go through that guide. according to that, files are closed at the end of activity. Actually i want to close the file prior to end of activity.
i have to read again the file from starting. For that either i have to set the pointer at starting(but it can be done only for vsam file, not for ps file) or close the file(so that reading start from first record) |

Hello,
If you describe the requirement (why you need to "start over" at the beginning of the file), someone may have a suggestion. |

Multiple jobs can exist within the same program. Any info from a prior job can be save in working storage. |

Thanks for all replies.
My problem is solved. Now I am using the 'sort' to make the file in table format. Then use the 'search' in table. so no need of reading file again and again. |

Hello,
From the initial request, i was fairly sure of why the re-open was needed.
Good to hear that you have a far more acceptable solution.

This is almost always the worst possible choice - it can make performance measurement and capacity planning people quite livid |
