The actual purpose is to improve your mainframe skills.

If your knowledge on mainframe technologies is 80-100% or 0-20%, you will find our CDs useless. At 80-100% you have nothing to learn from the resources and at 0-20%, you can only learn the basics from a training institute.

Why don't you try the DEMOs at:

COBOL DEMO

Hi Mac,

VISION Mainframe Simulator
-- VISION Mainframe Simulator Full Version - An easy to use mainframe workbench simulator with sample programs.

Hercules Mainframe PC Emulator
-- Hercules Mainframe Emulator for Windows with Installation manuals and all required software Add-Ons (not the OS!)

I was curios to know what would these simulators do on my PC (run programs or jobs) if i use a Windows OS or Linux OS?

And is there a link from wherein i could download the free version of MVS/Linux?

Hope i not bothering you too much. Just wanted to make sure I am buying the right thing for myself.

Thank you.

hercules ... the word tells ... emulates a mainframe
it ill run on all the platforms ..
all the windows sp/vista ( 68 also IIRC )
all the linux
mac os x intel or PPC
I successfuly built it and I have currently running
on mac os x leopard in 64 bit mode
solaris
there are ready to run packages for all the major platform
( my best choice would be to rebuild allways )

it will run any operating system designe for IBM MF architecture...
OS/360, all the MVS flavors 24/31/64 bits up to zOS
all the VM Sstuff and all the linux 31/64 bits
where the guest supports it there is full TCP/IP connectivity

here are a few useful links
hercules itself
www.hercules-390.org/

the ready to run mvs 3.8 turnkey
www.bsp-gmbh.com/turnkey

and the relative yahoo groups
hercules tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hercules-390/
turnkey tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/turnkey-mvs

here is a link to linux on mainframes
www.linuxvm.org/Info/distros.html

Yes I do know hercules quite well icon_biggrin.gif

hi all,

i jus went through the new ver 6 from ibmmainframes .... its a must have for all of us ....

i've went through the 1-2 cd's ... its a much needed quick refresher on the basic mainframes topics ... screenshots were lively .... flow charts were good ... this is much better than the 5 ver we have in library .. this also has some products which i'm yet to try ...

the second cd is more a technical stuff with ebooks & tutorials ... by the first glance i loved it ...

guys keep the good work going!

Yes, you can run the programs, but the OS is not included in the CD Pack.

You may need to download a free MVS OS like Linux/390, MVS 3.8, VM/370, DOS/VS(try torrents) or you can buy an Operating systems like z/OS, OS/390, MVS/ESA, z/VSE, z/VM from IBM icon_smile.gif

The error code belongs to a unsuccessful Visual Basic Run time component installation. You can run the Abend assist in vista, if you have pre-installed the VB runtime libraries before installing the Abend Assist: www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7B9BA261-7A9C-43E7-9117-F673077FFB3C&displaylang=en#Requirements

If you have these libraries in your Vista, try to install the Abend assist application as an administrator. In Vista, even when logged into an administrative account, you may need to right-click SETUP.EXE and choose "Run as administrator".

If nothing works, extract the attached zip file to your System32 folder (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32). Then type the following in the Run command. (Start Menu/Run)

Regsvr32 SENXPCTL.ocx

UPDATE: Please upgrade to Abend Assist 2.0
