GDG base is a GDG base not a dataset so will not have a management class, only the GDS associated with the base will have a MGMTCLAS if it is SMS managed.

Again, if tapes are not SMS managed they will not have a MGMTCLAS

What exactly do you need to know, there may be other ways of getting this info.

Hi all,

I'm in the process of finding management class of all our production files. Most of our production files are GDG's. I can find management class using the command listcat ent(/) all if those GDG's have versions.

Some of the GDG's don't have versions, it had been uncataloged because of retention period it seems. I could see only the base of GDG for some files. In this case, I want to find the MGMTCLASS. I tried to recall the versions that had created for those GDG using RESTREQ command. But it is not re-cataloging again, since it had not been backed up.

Share your suggestion,

Thanks in advance.

Just ask Your storage support group to give You read access to the source of the ACS routine
everything You need will be there

the only thing that You wouldn' t be able to catch is the explicit assignment of a management class thru jcl...
( but then it would be a very poor practice )
