the filed defination in the program is A190
The job simply writes various fields in the workfile.
and the workfile has following attributes
Management class . . : PRODSTD Allocated cylinders : 15
Storage class . . . : STANDARD Allocated extents . : 12
Volume serial . . . : HAP102
Device type . . . . : 3390
Data class . . . . . : DEFDC Current Utilization
Organization . . . : PS Used cylinders . . : 15
Record format . . . : FBA Used extents . . . : 12
Record length . . . : 220
Block size . . . . : 27940
1st extent cylinders: 4
Secondary cylinders : 1
Data set name type : SMS Compressible : NO
Creation date . . . : 2001/02/19 Referenced date . . : 2008/01/08
Expiration date . . : ***None***
Now my question is i have increased the field size to A149 in the module.
WHAT SHOULD BE THE MINIMUM RECORD LENGTH FOR THE DATASET FOR THE INCREASED FIELD SIZE ?
I can't try it by creating so many datasets with different different record lengths and running the JOB again and again as it takes min 2 hours to complete.
Please answer and explain ? |

What A190/A149 stand for? If we assume 190 is the field length, you had reduced it to 149.
We don't care about your Management class or other things as shown in 3.4 'info' (this entire thing you could have put in two/three lines).
If you have something to ask, explain in clear manner. Please remember as you cant read our mind, we cant read yours. |

Isn't this type of question better asked of your local storage management team? |

???? There is only 1 rec len for an FBA file. VB files may have max/min lengths.
In the pgm the len is defined by the combined length of the data fields; in the JCL the combined length of the data fields plus 1 ( that's for the print cntl char). |
