We have migrated the PL1 complier version from 2.3 to the Enterprise one.

Please find some Learnings I have attached in my note.

Please let me know in case you have any queries/concerns/doubts on the same.

Hi,

Please kindly do the needful,Your quick responce is highly appriciated.

There are some programs that need to be migrated to PL/1 V2 to ENT for a client

High-level steps recommended by client

Compile
For each Warning, Error:
Analyze Impact
Solution Proposal for each instruction on warning/error
The proposal has to be approved by ISDC
Clean Compile applying the proposal (without warnings)

We have to do a Pilot first for 15% of total programs (2000+ programs with average size of 1000 LOC each)

I need the estimate based on industry known errors and standards for this migration for

Pilot (150 programs)
Rest 1850 programs

The effort can be estimated on per-program basis.

Pls advice your assessment based on material available on IBM site, or internet on how complex this work would be, and how much effort would be needed fro migration of each program – for Pilot and the rest.

You have to do the needful
You have to do it quickly ( it's Your problem, not anybody' s else)
You have to read the material available on IBM sites
You have to search the <internet> for the same

no reason for anybody else to do the work You are getting paid for

Hello,

Suggest someone ensure the pilot includes a few of the most difficult as well as a few of the easiest. . .

Suggest you do not publish an estimate for "the rest of the story" until you have learned from the pilot.

Someone needs to honestly (rather than overly optimistic) assess the depth of knowledge/committment of the people who will do the work. This is not an overly difficult undertaking, but it will need people who are solid with the technology and are focused for the duration. Otherwise, it will not be completed and will have loose ends forever.
