What is RRn in RRDS file

can any one tell what is a RRN in RRDS file ?and how it will be generated?

RRN = Relative Record Number: 1, 2, 3, ......., n

so do you mean that RRN of the first record and also second record will be 1 and 2 respectively ?

Hi,

RRN (Relative Record Number) A number that indicates the location of a logical record, expressed as a difference with respect to a base address. The RRN is used to retrieve that logical record from the data set.

RRDS (Relative Record Data Set) A VSAM file whose records are loaded into fixed-length or variable-length slots. Each slot has a unique relative record number. Data is placed in a specific slot based on a user-supplied relative record number.
