Hi All,
Am having a problem with ISPF. My Hilite is not working. Ie HI COB gives an error as "Invalid Terminal". My emulator has Extended attributes enabled.
1) What may be the reason?
I understand that the ISPF variable "ZTERMCID" should have a value of 0037 for Hilite to work properly & it seems that ZTERMCID is having blank as its values.
2) Is their any method by which I can change the value of ZTERMCID
(a) Am not able to chage it from 7.3 option as it gives a message "Non-modifiable variable"
(b) not able to change it using VPUT as it gives "SYSTEM variabel in USE" as the error
I hope the way to solve this would be by changing the value of the variable before going into ISPF.
Please help.
Thanks in Advance
Rahul. |

I believe it has nothing to do with ZTERMCID (which is the CCSID coded character set identifier of the terminal), only with your terminal.

Hilite was a new modification to ISPF & is supported only by terminals having "Extended attributes" .
ISPF uses ZTERMCID to identify the if extended attributes is enabld. Actually in my emulator it is enabled but ZTERMCID is getting curupted.
Any idea how we can modify the value of ZTERMCID or any other system variables from TSO? |

ZTERMCID is a non-modifiable field, which means: You can not modify its content.
Take a look at IBM's recommendation regarding "ZTERMCID contains blanks":
Quote: |
Pursue with the vendor of the terminal emulator the problem of why the ZTERMCID variable is not being set on ISPF startup.
Tip: Check if the user's terminal emulator has the "extended attributes" set "off." |

As mentioned in my first post the "extended attributes" is on in my EMULATOR & it should have made ZTERMCID as 00037. But this is not happening & as of now i cant change my emulator...
Is their any other work around???
Why cannot we change the value of ZTERMCID before connectiong to ISPF??.
When in ISPF the ZTERMCID is in use & so cannot be modified... But why not when we are in TSO?
Is their some work around? |

You can't change its value because it's an ISPF system variable, updated by ISPF only (why? ask IBM) - just like many other ISPF variables.
As far as I know, you can't update any ISPF variable from TSO (i.e - when ISPF is down).

We are not allowe to cahange the values of ISPF variables when insibe ISPF as the profile dataset (which contains the info about the variables) is in USE by the ISPF.
The profile dataset & the values to these variables are assigned before entering into the ISPF. So logically when the dataset is created & is not in ISPF we should be able to modify the ISPF variables.. ie when we are in TSO... IS it? Any suggestions or Ideas for doing that... |

You can just ensure that you login in the multi colored terminal and this error should go away. I was getting this for IBM Query Monitor tool and when i logged in using LQ (for multi color) screen the error went away. In my shop if we do not use LQ then it provides only two color screen and i think QM needs more. Thanks! |

Well, nice to resurrect an almost 5 year old topic.

That's why every topic should be locked no more than two months after the last posting in it. |
