Hi Ramesh,

What Job No here. If Job No is that of when you submitt, then Go To Spool Locate for Job No ( If job not found in Spool Then ask any Utility which Holds Job spool detrails Ex: $AVERS).
Other Wise Give Vol Ser No as Search String And Search For it Using 3.14 for the same REfer the Forum Searching As Impact Analysis.
If You stuck up somewhere let us know. |

There will be other regions where the jobs will reside other than SPOOL. But this will be depend on ur company. Try to findout the location of job, then use job number to find the job there. |

Check in Spool Log.(Got SDSF and look for Log Command, There Look For Job No.) |

The lack of good communication always amazes me !!
All ( almost all ) IT shops have a tool called ANALTAPE/IEBANTP
or something like that, which reads a tape and prints ( usually )
detailed statistics on its contents
( tape label, standard file labels, number of blocks in the datasets, .... )
Ask Your system support, or in this case the operations team
if You have it You could also use DITTO to scan the tape
... You are lucky that at least You have the volser |

Hello,
If this tape is not an "external" tape, you might talk with your tape management people. The tape library system knows which datasets are on which volsers.
As has been mentioned, you can also look at the tape header information which will give you the dataset name. Keep in mind that in the HDR1 label, the dataset name is only 17 positioins - it you dsn is longer, not all of it will be in the hdr1 label.
If you "print" the header info with IEBGENER by using LABEL=(,blp) in the SYSUT1 DD and SYSUT2 DD SYSOUT=*, you will have what you want. Some sites restrict the use of BLP provessing, so someone in Operations or Tech Support may need to run the job for you. |

Yes You are right, they are not included in any vanilla ( bare-bones) system setup
they are usually part of some product,
downloaded from internet ( CBTTAPE)
or ( more frequently ) part of the ( very old denomination )
traveling systems engineer tool' s chest
I was not implying in my post the presence of such tools, just an hint
for what to look for.
It is possible that other products might offer the same capabilities
My considerations apply to shops without a Tape management system,
or the case that the tape was outside the TMS
( provided/shipped by a different IT shop)
In case of a Tape managed tape there should be commands to display the content of each tape |
