Hi,
I am looking for a tool or utility to browse/edit VSAM files in Unix on AIX box. Looking for something similar to FileAid or FIleManager we use on MVS.
If you have anything in your knowledge then please share with me.
Thanks,
Satish |

Hello,
How is VSAM implemented on your unix system? What software was installed?
Which sort product are you using on the unix system? |

Hi,
Thanks for quick reply. I am new on this system and have no idea how VSAM was implemented or which software was installed. I am looking for simple utility like FileManager to browse /edit VSAM files on Unix.
Thanks & Regards,

Hello,
Before you can "find a utility" you need to identify your vsam environment. Keep in mind that vsam is not native to unix. Conversation with the sysadmin(s) might be productive.
Knowing which sort is used on the unix system also may help you. You could use the sort to "extract" selected records from the vsam data and then look at it using tools already on the unix system. |

I thought File-Aid was ported to all of the popular platforms. |

It should be ISAM on Unix platform. There might be some inhouse application or tools to read ISAM files, check with your peers. |

VSAM is supported by Unikix which has built in tools to look at the files. We use syncsort to sort files and process under the Unikix ebm batch manager. |

My bad - my comment was in reference to your system having tools already installed that provide you with what you were looking for as well as providing additional functionality. |

Thanks Dick. I asked administartor about any such tools but he is not aware of any. Could you please tell me name of any utility/tool so that I can ask him specifically.
Thanks,
Tushar |

If i've caused confusion being humorous, my apology.
I know of no additional tools. It sounded like you had the tools you need to look at the files or sort/select from them. |
