hi,
Back up of an IMS database is in a flat file.
The flat file is input to a batch program.
The batch program should access a field in say segment A of the hierarchy.
How do we do it? |

Are you writing a new program? What are the requirements? Why are you reading the backup? How often is the IMS database backed up? Is the backup in sync with the live IMS data? |

Do you know how the backup file is created? how the backup format looks like?
If this is IMS database tape backup done using tool like BMC, then I bet you cannot read this file and interpret what segment or data.
If you mean that the backup is actually an image copy with all segments etc.. then also it's not an easy task of reading this flat file directly.
I reckon you should write a DLI program to read your Segment A and required field with SSA which is easier and quicker rather than reading a huge backup file. |
