I created a PDS and created several members within it and they were working fine until now.
All of a sudden all the members in this PDS have starting giving error. When I try to make any changes in the members of this PDS, it cannot save it. It gives me error
"SVM4450I SPACVOLA ALLOWED ONLY ON SEQUENTIAL DATA SETS " and displays System abend '0E37'
To use the members in this PDS i have to copy them into another PDS and then it works fine.
Please let me know what can be the probable cause of this issue. Thanks. |

Thanks!!!!!!
Searching the forum worked well!!
e37 is a space error. just type 'START 3.4' option in the cmd prmt and then compress your dataset by typing 'Z' on it. and then come back using 'F9' then go ahead.
This works well |

Hello,
Good to hear it is now working
If this repeats often, i'd suggest you re-allocate the pds with more overall space and more directory blocks. If there are frequent member add/change/delete activities, you will need to compress the pds regularly.
You might also talk with your storage management people about using a pdse rather than a pds. |

Permanent solution to resolve system abend '0E37':
---------------------------------------------------------
Dataset compression could be a temporary solution for system abend '0E37' but if u want to add more members in the dataset then go for the below permanent resolution
(1) Go to 3.4 and browse the data set
(2) Use 'DS' command in front of your browsed data set
(3) Opt 'E' option to expand the dataset and hit enter
(4) Increase the space based on the your requirement
(5) Submit the job which is created by the system after you have increased the space : |

And you think this reply, eight years after the thread ended, is of any use? DS is not a standard ISPF command, so your "solution" will only be of use for a very limited number of users. |

Vinoth,
1. This topic is over 7 years old.
2. DS is not a standard line command at a 3.4 panel. Maybe a CLIST at your specific shop? |
