Hi All,
I want to know whats the Use of REPLICATE/IMBED keyword in IDCAMS utility...
Also If anybody can tell me what will be affection on JCL, if I remove these keyword. |

Please refer manaul. Its clearly mentioned in that.

JCL is NOT IN LOVE (affection) with these words. You can gladly remove these. |

Anyway
replicate and imbed are leftovers from the old times when the
DASD subsystems were slow and there were no cached control units.
"IMBED" means that the sequence set for a VSAM KSDS cluster was positioned on the first track of a cylinder
in order to avoid a seek for the real data transfer
"REPLICATE" means replicate in the index component the index block as many times it would fit on a track,
in order to avoid any rotational delay
For the current technology
"IMBED" might be irrelevant
"REPLICATE" might yield a slight performance penalization
- duplicating into the cache useless copuies of the same info

As Enrico has said, these parms are for the benfit of "Classic DASD".
In later releases of z/OS these are no longer supported. |
