Hi,
Here is a small task that requires a little patience and intuition.
We are aware that, normally the datasets on the Mainframe would be archived on and retrieved from the tapes after a particular timeframe.
Archive and Retrieval process is normally an adhoc process in every application area which deals with large volumes of data. As the data size grows rapidly, the application performance is at stake. To handle this, normally all such applications will have an adhoc process that will Identify and migrate the old data at regular intervals. This will reduce the data volumes that current application need to handle and might run faster. If you search in the internet with this terminology, you might be able to get some information.
Coming to the deliverables, we should have a document that addresses at least following aspects.
a) Standard approaches
b) Best practices,
c) Any opportunities for in-house tools
d) Practical issues
e) Availability of existing software packages and their brief analysis. |

Are you suggesting to put these documents on the forum? |

So go tell your storage guys that they have not set up the environment correctly. This is not an ad hoc process, but in most cases a well thought out and implemented strategy that is environment wide not just by application.
Please explain your reasoning on how by migrating data to tape from DASD the application runs faster ? |
