Hi all,
I know an http server is installed on our zos system (not WAS, just a simple http server). Some third-party applications use it.
Anyway, I was wondering how it works. How is it possible to make a web page available on this server and how to manage dynamic web pages without installing Websphere Application Server.
More specifically, I would like to know how can we make a page that can be used to submit a job on the mainframe? Is that possible with a simple http server? (using may be CGI..)
Any documentation on the subject?
Thanks.

Hello,
How does the third-party applications do it?
As that is already running on your system, it would be good to understand how the purchsed code works and continue in a similar manner. |

Hi Dick,
I don't know how the third-party applications do it.
The products just got installed (we do not have the source code).
Any other idea?
Thanks.

Hello,
Who supports the 3rd-part software? I'd talk with them.
If no one in your systems group has any knowledge, i'd try to get info from the vendor of the 3rd-party apps.
Be scary to me to run software that no one local had any knowledge about. . . How would we trouble-shoot, tune, expand, etc as needed if no one had some knowledge? |

We have knowledge about the interfaces..but no how it internally works.
Ok the software is CFT (Cross File Transfer) from Axway.
A module of it is Copilot. Copilot is a web module that runs on the mainframe. Accessing Copilot with your browser allows you to start and monitor file transfers from and to the mainframe.
So if we knew how Copilot is implemented on the mainframe, we could take example from it.
But I'm sure it doesn't use WAS nor java. These are not installed on the system.
Only a default http server is installed I think.
Thanks for your help.

This seems good to me. I'll have a look at it.
Thanks. |
