Can we open and view a tape dataset directly?

Can we open and view a tape dataset directly? If so, how to do that?

If by "directly" you mean straight from a TSO/ISPF session, then no, most likely you can't.

You should provide the definition of directly. As stated earlier, direct fom TSO/ISPF session it's not possible, you need to get the tape file to DASD to view/browse it.
