Have you ever considered the idea of going to the IBM website and looking at the various manuals residing there? Much more information and a lot quicker too......

To creat, delete, rename datasets in VM/ESA you need to use DITTO ( its an IBM Utility Program ).

Login to CICS and type DITTO it will open DITTO session for you ( In case your installation has DITTO)

Or from your CMS Session type DITTO 14 it will open DITTO session for you ( In case your installation has DITTO)

Hello,

Yes, they are. All of the commands are on the IBM site(s). They are not all in the same publication.

You may need to spend more time looking than you want, but they are all there.

If you find some command or info that yoj do not understand, post a reply here with the command or info as well as what you don't understand.

hai dick

Let me know in detail about file modes and file types in VM/ESA.

Where to write a JCL or Cobol program.

How to execute the programs in VM/ESA.

Is there any Menu options in VM/ESA like ISPF in Z/OS.

Hello,

Much/most of the vse environment is similar to z/OS - but it is nearly all said and done differently.

How do you run program in vse - you submit them.

Is there something like ispf - yes, both in vm and in vse.

You write cobol pretty much the same as you do on z/OS. JCL is completely different.

As has been mentioned before, you will need to spend a lot of time in the manuals.

There is far too much to even try to present in detail in these forums.

Hi ,

Below answeres in blue bold font might help you :

Let me know in detail about file modes and file types in VM/ESA.
Files are same like MVS you can have ESDS,KSDS VSAM files.

Where to write a JCL or Cobol program.
Usually the editor used to browse the files is called XEDIT , You use that editor to browse/edit your programs & JCL's.

On the ready prompt give command like
XX progname * * ( progname is name of program, First * is for file type & second * is for Directory name ) This will show you the progname in various directories then select the required prog with X in front of that press ENTER ,it will open that program in XEDIT.

How to execute the programs in VM/ESA.
You will write/modify JCL in XEDIT and then you can submit your JCL from the same editor by giving submit command at command prompt of XEDIT.

Is there any Menu options in VM/ESA like ISPF in Z/OS.
I have seen the menu options in ICCF/CICS region menu's but not in CMS environment of VM/VSE

To see the records in the dataset in VM/ESA you need to use DITTO ( its an IBM Utility Program ).

Login to CICS and type DITTO it will open DITTO session for you ( In case your installation has DITTO)

Or from your CMS Session type DITTO 14 it will open DITTO session for you ( In case your installation has DITTO)

Once DITTO is opened then at the Command Prompt of Ditto You Can type VB ( VSAM Browse ) , If you want to Edit Vsam Dataset You can use VE ( VSAM Edit ) .
Then this will ask you for the File Name and Catalog Name in which this file resides.

Or while loggedin CICS you can Type DITTO VB This will open Ditto in Vsam Browse Mode and will ask you for the File Name and Catalog Name in which this file resides.

I hope this will help you.
