difference between KSDS and RRDS

Hi can anyone explain to me what's the difference between KSDS and RRDS when do we use RRDS? thanks.

Hello,

A main difference is that a KSDS is "keyed" by one or more fields to facilitate direct retrieval of records. A KSDS may have multiple keys (alternate index entries) allowing muiltiple direct-access possibilities.

An RRDS is directly read by using the relative record number (which limits the cases where one might be used).

Many large VSAM applications have no RRDS files defined.
