Hi, i am trying to find a way to copy selected fields from a flat file into another flat file using IBM file manager. Currently i am doing it using FileAid, but my organisation has decided to part ways with fileaid. Has anyone used IBM file manager in this regard. Appreciate you help on this.

Hello and welcome to the forums,

If you search a bit you may find some topics that do this with File Manager.

If you look in DFSORT, there are several examples of copying selected data using the sort and/or icetool. Does your system use DFSORT or Syncsort or ?

If you would like to pursue this using your sort product, please post back and your topic can be moved.

Hello,

Yes, we don't have a lot of discussion about File Manager.

Does your system use DFSORT, Syncsort, or some other product?

Depending on which product you use, i'll relocate your topic.

Use this link to display the Bookshelves for the different releases of FILE MANAGER. When you know the release that you are running at your shop, pick a shelf and I'd start with the USER's Guide.

was browsing thru the forum and lost my way to this post...

what you need can definitely be done using FM...goto FM - option 3.3... fill in your dataset and layout details and edit the template...
Code:

 File Manager                     Copy Utility
 Command ===>

From Partitioned, Sequential or VSAM Data Set, or HFS file:
    Data set/path name  . . 'XX.X.XXXXXX.FILE'                              +

    Volume serial . . . . .            (If not cataloged)
    Start key . . . . . . .                                key or slot

Copy count  . . . . . . ALL        number of records to be copied
 From Copybook or Template:

 Processing Options:
Copybook/template    Enter "/" to select option
1  1. Above             Batch execution           Advanced member selection
       2. None              Use proc                  Skip member name list

now put a 'S' in front of the field you want and hit Enter... now copy the file and check your output... the output will have only the selected field...
