Could you tell me the major difference between Production support and maintenance.

Hello,

Different organizations have different definitions for the same terms. . .

One thought is that Production is where the business processes are run. Real customers enter orders, shipments are made, actual accounting is done, payroll checks/direct deposits are processed etc, etc. . .

Maintenance may be where changes to existing code and fixes to errors found are made and tested. Some organizations perform maintenance activities in the same environment as new development.

It all depends on a particular organization's configuration management methodology.
