I would like to ask as to which of the databases Oracle or DB2 is a better one to be used in Mainframes?
I think it should be DB2, but I do not know the reason behind it. Is it because it is acceptable universally in any platform? |

Hello,
Selection of a database product is seldom based on which is "better" from a technical perspective.
The people who make such decisions do so using their own criteria. If your organization has chosen DB2, Oracle, or some other dbms, they may have published what that decision was based on. |

Coming from a line of different shops, none of which had DB2, it's hard for me to quantify an answer. When I asked at the shop I'm currently in, they told me that Oracle is the standard because it has have a much broader technical base (DBA, Programming, Support, etc.) than DB2, giving the company a broader base of expertise to hire from. Actually, DB2 is the ONLY database we don't use. |

As far as I know, you cannot run Oracle in VSE or MVS. It can be done using z/linux though. |
