Hi Guys,

I need to prepare job flow diagram for hundreds of jcls. I need someone's advise on how to go about this.

I think, we need to look at the CA7 and the JCLs to do this.

What information (and how) should I retrieve from CA7 so that I can prepare a higher level job flow diagram?

In addition to this,

how can I find out the dependency (dataset or another job) for a job?

I find that anyreport from Scheduler product with a huge number of jobs are unreadable.

But that should not be a problem because to enter jobs in CA7 with their dependencies, you MUST have to already design the flow somewhere : on mainframe, on NT, ...
If not, I cannot imagine how they are in the Scheduler.

Do not turn the sequence of operations.

Hello,

If you create these diagrams from the existing schedule, how might they then be used?

If we understand what you want to really do, we may be able to offer suggestions.

Your request is how to do a prticular technical thing, but i suspect that your real requirement is more than that. Sounds like this is some kind of analysis step to lead to somewhere. . . icon_question.gif

Hi d.sch,

You are right. We have a system on mainframe in place without any documentation.

We need to document the system so that it can be maintain more easily. Plus, we need to identify the redundat, dead, duplicate code..

We have some bits and pieces of information here and there but not the job flow diagram. so, from the ca-7 schedule, we need to derive this.

I seek advise on what should be our approach?

Ok, If i were you i would approach this this way. These 100 jobs probably are probably for different modules in the same system. seperate the jobs by each module. IDentify dependendencies. We used to have a Product JCL check,if you have that product in the product ,select the jcl as

1 Job1
2 job2
3 job3
4 job4
etc.. This will create you a Flow chart if you choose and a Consolidated List of Datasets used in the selected job stream.
